The Appraisal Institute is seeking a talented accounting professional who desires a variety of responsibilities and the ability take ownership of those deliverables, is detail-oriented and has an established foundation and knowledge of debits and credits. Reporting to the Controller you'll be responsible for the monthly financial close for the Appraisal Institute and Appraisal Institute Education and Relief Foundation.

  • Coordinate data collection for monthly close process
  • Prepare and process journal entries to the general ledger including accruals
  • Prepare reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts. Investigate variances and perform necessary adjustments to accounts.
  • Produce monthly reports and related support for management review
  • Distribute monthly reports to department directors
  • Work closely with departments in resolving accounting issues and financial report inquiries
  • Reconcile receipts for purchases made via Institute's corporate credit cards. Record transactions within the general ledger
  • Assist in preparation for annual financial audit
  • Assist in quarterly projection and annual budget processes


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years experience as a Staff Accountant or relevant role in general accounting.
  • Non-profit association experience a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting standards and principles
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate effectively with staff and affiliates
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Word, Excel and accounting/financial software
  • Confidentiality and integrity
