WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Direct the textbook publishing activities of the organization (nearly 70 books in print and PDF format)
- Lead a team of three
- Direct the acquisition, development, scheduling, editing, production, and sale of print and digital books
- Prepare budgets to forecast and track revenues and expenses, and oversee all revenues and expenses related to publications, including setting book prices and the payment of author royalties
- Work with internal and external contacts to research topics for new books and schedule revisions of existing texts
- Identify potential authors and opportunities for in-house content development
- Solicit content experts to review book proposals and make recommendations for manuscript development
- Negotiate and oversee publishing agreements and schedules
- Monitor the status of works in progress to ensure authors and reviewers remain on schedule
- Oversee the sale of all print and digital books through the online store and monitor the inventory of print publications
- Manage the marketing of books by writing informational copy, identifying audiences and sale opportunities, and approving promotional materials
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLSETS, & ABILITIES YOU'LL NEED:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Business Management, or related field
- At least 5 years of experience managing the development of print and digital publications
- Familiarity with technical publications
- Experience working with authors, reviewers, and volunteers
- Ability to effectively lead and manage a team of direct reports
- Knowledge of and experience with book production, budgeting, marketing, sales, and inventory management
- Facility with verbal and written communication and the management of details and deadlines
- Knowledge of industry practices and regulations
- Association experience preferred
